Sentimental Stitches

When I’m in the middle of working on a quilt that requires a great deal of time and concentration I like to take a break and refresh my brain with a smaller project for some instant gratification.

I was making pillowcases for a while but have grown tired of the same old basic pattern. It looks like other stitchers have been feeling the same way. I’ve come across two new patterns that I’m going to try over the weekend and thought I’d share them with you.

From the Sunflower Pillowcases name you’d never know what a cool design this is. It’s a great way to use the wide floral stripe fabrics we’re seeing so many of. I’m going to call these Double Border Pillowcases.

Being the eternal romantic that I am, I’ll probably choose something like this Marabella Floral stripe.

If your taste is more contemporary, a Kaffe Fassett or Amy Butler fabric would be a great choice. It wouldn’t have to be one of their stripes. Just choose a coordinating fabric that goes with the body of the pillowcase.

The other pattern I found is for the Sienna Pillowcases. They use a variety of fabrics, pieced diagonally to form the fabric you make your cases from. What a great way to audition fabrics for a large quilt or make custom pillowcases to match a quilt you already have.

Take a break and whip up a pair of these pillowcases for yourself. They’re sure to inspire quilting dreams!
