The summer is coming to an end! This whole year has just been blowing by. It's been filled with lots of good things that have kept me extra busy and there are some exciting things coming up in the next few months so I plan to enjoy the ride and rest a little next year - haha!

Block 9

Isn't this a beautiful, classic album quilt block? I especially love the fabrics in this block because I have reproduction prints that nearly match each one! How cool is that? Now I just need time to use them to stitch a block!

I think the signature on this block is unique in the way she hyphenated the town of Emmittsburg. I wonder why she would do that? Must have some reason. I tried to do some research on Johanna but couldn't pinpoint anything of significance.

Last week seemed to be the week for "copyrights and copywrongs" along with a trademark issue for me. The quilting world is such a friendly sharing place but it's also a business place. I won't go into my trademark situation because I don't think sending a herd of attorneys after someone is the answer to what might have been an honest mistake so I'll work through that one on my own as long as I can but "copyrights and copywrongs" is something that's been talked about in magazines, on blogs and numerous places on the internet. We all like to share things but need to be realistic and respectful of the law that's in place to protect artists and designers of all genres. In short, if you purchase a pattern from a store or web site or download a free pattern, it is against the law to copy or distribute that pattern in any format to anyone without the permission of the designer. A free download doesn't mean it's copyright free - It's that simple. The right to share the pattern belongs only to the designer. Please be mindful of this as you enjoy all the wonderful patterns available to quilters today. 'nough said!

We hope you'll enjoy stitching this month's block - lots of practice on leaf points and inside curves on flowers. Take a few stitches each day because before you know if the leaves will be turning colors and it'll time for the October block!
