Sentimental Stitches Newsletter - May 2008

The month of May is always a joyful one at Sentimental Stitches. Not only is it the month for the Spring International Quilt Market  where designers are showing quilt shop owners from across the country the wonderful patterns they’ve been working on all winter, it’s also the month when the Trillium are in bloom here in Michigan and we start to believe winter is finally over for the year.

I have completed the massive (for me anyway) undertaking of combining our two mailing lists and now all 3000+ quilters are on one list and receiving the newsletter. If you know of someone I missed, please ask them to sign up again and I’ll make sure their email gets in the right place.

The Midget Blocks continue so remember to look for those on Mondays even if you’re only collecting the patterns. When I’m really busy I may miss a week or two but try to make it up by posting more than one block. I have a new project I’m working on with the Midget’s and looking for quilters who might be interested in making a few blocks (or small project) for me. If that’s you, please email me for details.

The first section of the Shipshewana Amish Mystery Quilt has been posted As soon as the rest of my background fabric arrives, I’ll start working on a applique section for the next installment.  If you haven’t checked the site, it’s a lap size quilt in traditional Midwest Amish colors with both pieced and applique blocks of various sizes. The blocks will be posted as they are completed so be sure you’ve signed up for the newsletter.  With the mailing lists combined I can begin sending block reminders again when things are ready.

The Nancy Page-Magic Vine quilt continues with the May block posted today.

Many of you are working on the Sally Post Floral Sampler quilt. It’s a beautiful applique quilt signed and dated from 1854. The blocks are very unique and not too difficult to applique. A friend recently commented "with only one block a month it’ll take me 3 years to complete this quilt. I don’t know if I can wait that long"? I got to thinking about that and decided in honor of my 30th wedding anniversary on May 4  that I’d begin posting one block a day for the next 30 days!  It will work similar to the Motif of March embroidery patterns I shared. I’ll post the pattern each morning on the main page of the web site. There will be a picture of the block and if you click on the name of the block under the picture, the pattern file will open for you to print.  Each block will be posted for 1 day (yes, 1 day or 24 hours) so write yourself a reminder note or work on the buddy system if you are going to be away.

What will we do for a Block of the Month now? You’ll have to wait until June to fine out.

I have signed up for your newsletter about 13 months ago and haven’t received one yet. I have written a few times too asking questions and never got a reply.

I have been working on the Magic Vine blocks since the beginning and really have enjoyed them. I have my first 2 strips sewn together and have the strips added to them. I thought I should go ahead and just add a vine between them and finish it off, but I am not ready to give up on you posting the rest of the blocks yet.

Hope you can get back to posting the rest of the blocks soon.

I just tryed to sign up for your newsletter and it said that I was already on your list - if that is true, why am I not receiving them?
Love your Midgets and all the work you do for us - where do you find the time?
Thank you for all you do!
