Templates

  • Templates are made by tracing all of the shapes needed for a block on template plastic or another firm material such as cardboard. Accuracy is very important. Taking care at this point will help ensure easy sewing.
  • Templates for hand piecing do not include the 1/4” seam allowance.

  • Templates for machine piecing do include a 1/4” seam allowance on all sides. Cut your templates out accurately on the drawn line using a pair of scissors you won’t be using for fabric.
  • To cut out your fabric pieces, draw around the templates on the wrong side of your fabrics. For hand piecing you’ll be adding the 1/4” seam allowance as you cut out your pieces so be sure to allow enough room between your pieces to allow for this. For machine piecing you can draw around the pieces close together because your seam allowance is already included. Cut out using a sharp pair of scissors.

I take my pattrens to a glasss place here in town. The lady loves to look at Quilts. She doesnt sew but loves to look at Quilts..lol
She takes my Pattrens and cuts them into plexaglass
She adds the 1/4 in I need. She makes them all out of scraps of glass she has. SO i always take my Quilt back into her so she can see it.
Also if i eve want to make the Quilt again I have the glass to do it.
For each pattren I take in . its about 1.50 to 2.00 .
    SO worth it to me
