Quilting

Quilting

  • 3M Coban Latex Free Self-Adhesive Tape. You can use this tape as thimbles, it is flexible it will give you a little more mobility in quilting if you’re not fond of a metal thimble. The tape contains ahesive material that makes it stick to itself but not to other materials or skin. Almost like making a custom fit thimble. The product should be available at your local drug store or can be ordered online at www.walgreens.com
  • If you prick a finger and get blood on your quilt, use your own saliva to remove it.

I have even gone so far as to make my own leather thimbles. Craft stores sell leather and glue. Eventually the leather will wear through but I just glue another piece of leather on the worn spot or make another thimble. Give me more flexibility, custom fit, and it is cheaper. Out of a small piece of leather (3 x 6) I can get several thimbles. I too have a tendency to use my thumb nail when quilting away from me but with a homemade thimble I don’t wear out my nail or jam the needle up the nail, ouch!
