1857 Album Quilt – Blocks 59 – 60 – 61

Well friends, we're almost finished with this quilt! There are three blocks this month and you'll receive the final 3 next month. I've been busy thinking about what we'll do next. Not to worry - I have a plan! I'll share all the details with you very soon. Let's take a look at today's blocks -

Block 59

This block was made by E. Campbell

The block has some nice details like embroidered stems.

and a cute little red bird.

And............. then there's this brown birdie. He's a little on the crazy side with a red berry in his mouth. Zoom in on him and you can see all of the applique and embroidery covering his unusual shape. Was this one of those designs that just went wrong and our quilter kept adding things to him in hopes of making him look realistic? I'd be tempted to use a reverse image of the red bird or broderie perse in this block.

Block 60

This block is signed - Father

This block would traditionally be a pieced block but as you can see, each triangle, the base and handle were appliqued.

Block 61

There was once a beautiful cross stitch signature on this block. I've stared at it for a long time and can't figure out what it might have said. Sometimes I think I see the word "Love" but that's probably wishful thinking.

This is such a sweet block. The pattern page has a full size picture so you can find the perfect fabric to use. The original block used two sizes of three leaf clusters. I think it's a great block.

That's it for today. I'm on the road as the summer commutes have started. If you need to get in touch with me the best way is to use one of the "contact" links on the web site. I'm only in the office 3 days a week during the summer.
A newsletter went out today too so if you're not on the mailing list you're missing out on lots of news and quilty things. There's a link to join the mailing list in the right sidebar.
