October 1st!!! It's October! The temperatures are cooling down - the leaves are changing color - only four weeks until I head to Shipshewana for the quilt retreat. It's a really busy time of year. I always feel like fall kicks the quilting season into high gear and that I like very much! Our summer travels are over and we can reconnect with quilting friends and plan winter projects and holiday gifts. It's a fun time.  

The blocks for Cheddarback last month were a little different with 1 large block and two small blocks for our quilts. This month is also a little different. We're in the center of the quilt and this whole column is different from the outside edges so we have two large blocks this month.

Block 34

This is a really interesting block. It would normally be a pieced block diagonally in the square but in this case it's a combination of piecing and applique with the design set straight on the background square. It also gives us a great look at that amazing fabric used for the cornerstones and throughout the quilt.

Here's the patchwork part of the block. You're going to using diamonds and a triangle to piece three flower units and then applique those sections along with the rest of the block on the background square. Does the background fabric look familiar? The background fabric is the same blue print used as the sashing around the outside edges. 

Block 35

This is going to be a fun block to put together. There are four different fabrics packed into this block making is a real beauty.

The two blue prints are as perfect choices and that sweet beige background print..... I wish I had yards of that one.
