Basic Information – Benjamin Biggs Quilt
Block of the Month
On the first of each month we’ll post instructions (as a digital download) for a block from the quilt. All blocks will come with instructions. You’ll receive the border pattern early so you can work on it while making the rest of your blocks.
On January 1, 2014, you will receive a block at Brenda’s Dear Jane site. Because we’re doing one block each month, on February 1, 2014 you’ll receive the second block from Gay at Sentimental Stitches. We will alternate posting the blocks until we finish the quilt. Here’s a chart to help you keep track –
All blocks are free for one month. After that time they can be purchased in the Online Store. Retired blocks are $6.00 each and available as digital downloads.
The patterns are PDF files and you’ll need a program on your computer that can open and display those files. The most common program is Adobe Reader. It’s a free program you can download and use right away. Click on the Get Adobe Reader text and you’ll be directed to their web site.
This quilt can be made in any color combination you want. The original quilt was made using a variety of red and green prints with a touch of indigo blue on a creamy background. Brenda will be showing blocks that are made in the traditional colors reproducing the antique nquilt. Gay is going a little wild and crazy showing the block in non traditional colors and fabrics. It’s your quilt so go ahead, get creative!
Background fabric – 10 yards
Green or combination of greens (we counted at least 5 different prints) — 7 yards
Red or combination of reds ( we counted at least eight different prints) – 3 yards
Indigo Blue or combination of blues – 1/4 yard
Add 1 yard for binding (background color is suggested).
NOTE: The fabric yardage is calculated by Electric Quilt 7. We have added a generous amount to this estimate.
