Feathered Plumes
Oh, I am soooo jealous!!! I am no less than 3 units behind and am stuck on the appliwue block. I started it all over again and am thinking that doing it by machine is a great idea.
I have finally completed all requirements for my maaster of theology degree and am reading Gone With the Wind. I am sure I could whine and coerce with Scarlett O’hara.
I found this piece of needlwork in an antique shop in Ohio. The note pinned to it says it was made in Vermont 1860-1880. It is 36 inches across and has all 8 of those center points stitched without any lumps and THEN appliqued with the most exquisite stitches I have ever seen!!

what a beautiful block! How special it is that there was a note attached documenting its origin and age.
Congratulations on your degree! That’s also very special.
You could frame this with a mat of green or red. It seems to call for more than just a frame. If you wanted to make a quilted wallhanging, you could add some border fabric or pieced borders. A leafy print border might help accent the feathery plumes. You could do a pieced border but so as to not take attention away from the center square, I’d do a simple border like a checkerboard or geese. What about green and white geese on 2 adjoining sides and red and green geese on the other 2 sides? Whatever you decide to do, this will be beautiful and something to treasure.
ewwwww.. how pretty. Congrats on your degree. You must be one busy lady. whow. What an accomplishment! I love the block and the info on it. You are fortunate to have found this. Just so pretty.
Thankyou ladies.
I have had very unreliable internet for the past 5 days and it has been really annoying but we are up and running faster than ever. Good thing I comopleted school before that happened. Right now I do not have anything better to do than catch up on my blocks and complete my Grad School Jane quilt. I like your idea Joyce. Let me see if I can find any red or green in my huge box of civil war fabrics to match.
Oh why did you have to post this block? I love the colors and now wish that I had used these 2 colors in my Take 2 quilt. Maybe my next one – ha
A big ongratulations on your degree. It is not easy to stay so motivated.
I’m sorry:(
I have no new blocks to post but been reading about the civil war and got nostalgic.
