Serendipity

I laid out my Serendipity multi-colured blocks on the bed now that I know where each block goes and am now filling in the missing blocks. Colour choice had me hesitating before starting new blocks. I agree with Janet that this quilt has taken me to places I have not explored before. So much so that I have started a whole new one in red and white and plan to do some of the embroidery along the way.

  1. Whow. I think this is so pretty. Love your quilt!

  2. thankyou

  3. I like the look of your quilt -Did you use scraps or did you buy yardage? I would like to use scraps from my stash – but don’t think I have the skills to be able to coordinate them – Yours looks just great – The fabrics look to be all of the same depth of colour – sort of pastel.

  4. I used the Jinny Beyer pallet. It is an older collection that went on sale for half price at a discount fabric store here a few years ago and I bought a half yard cut of every colour thinking I would eventually use it to make up something with all the border prints I have been collecting over the years. When I saw the promo for this mystery quilt I went to my stash to look for 6 yards of one colour that I could live with for a year and decided on the pallet. It has been fun to work with so many unfamiliar colours this past year. I found there is only 1 yellow. The fabric is a bit loosely woven so frays a bit for hand applique but the tone on tone designs are very forgiving. I am really please with the effect. Problem has been colour selection since there are so many purples and greens and few oranges and pinks and only 1 yellow so I ended up using some more than once. I do like the crispness of the colours on the white background of which I had an entire bolt in my stash, just in case.
As for using scraps from your stash, the more blocks in the quilt the easier it is to incorporate lots of colours. It terrifies me to think about it.

  5. Your colors look beautiful. Isn’t it a great way to use up a fabric pallet for such a quilt?
