A Midget Block Mug Rug

Advertisements:

December is flying by at a feverish pace. There is less than three weeks until Christmas Day. I used to laugh at my parents when they told me "the older you get the faster time goes by." Needless to say, I get it! I can't say I like it any better than they did.

If you're on the Sentimental Stitches mailing list you've been receiving "The Twelve Days of Christmas" emails with a different special each day. I had so much fun working on today's special that I just had to share it with you here.

It's a Midget Block Mug Rug

Most of you know how much I adore our little cottage in the woods of Traverse City. Using Midget Block #16 was perfect not only because it's called Christmas Tree but because it will remind me all winter long of my Traverse City trees!

This particular Midget Block is foundation paper pieced so the little points on the tree will be as perfect as they can be. I added some easy piecing from a variety of forest green prints and a little border. The quilting is simple straight lines and I used the serpentine stitch on my machine for some soft waves. Add the binding and believe it or not you can finish this in an afternoon.

Now for the best part......... today's Fourth Day of Christmas Special is a kit to make your very own Midget Block Mug Rug. It comes with everything you need right down to the cotton batting and a peppermint candy cane. It's all packaged in a holiday mug for you to use with your new Midget Block Mug Rug. All the information is on the Mug Rug Kit page in the online store.

Until midnight tonight you can order as many of the kits as you'd like for $12.50 using the FOURTHDAY coupon code during checkout. These make great "Secret Pal" gifts and we'd be happy to send one directly to your pal for you but the Twelve Days of Christmas Specials are really meant to be my treats for you.

If you're not on the mailing list be sure to sign up in the right sidebar. You'll receive an email each morning (except Sundays) letting you know what the special is for that day. There are eight days of specials left and you never know what Clutch and I will come up with. He's taken up residence as my "desk dog" this week while I work.

Just Takes 2â„¢ Quilt – December 1 Quilt Blocks and Final Assembly

Advertisements:

I'm sorry to be so late getting this posted but things have been busy around here and I just didn't get to writing the instructions as soon as I'd hoped to after getting back from Shipshewana. There are 14 pages of instructions today so buckle up and get ready to rock and roll!
It's hard to believe it's time for the final set of blocks in the Just Takes 2 quilt and we can put all those sections together in one spectacular quilt but here we are! The final assembly is not without it's challenges but there's nothing you can't handle. Remember, a picture is worth a 1000 words and there's plenty when you get to that part.

Before we get to all that let's have a look at the last 5 blocks.

Block 96

Block 97

The simple basket in the center of this block is foundation paper pieced because of the unique size needed to set it perfectly on point within the background.

Block 98

Block 99

The center circle in the exhibit quilt was red but I decided to make mine white. I lined the piece so the seam allowance wouldn't show through. I may still do some embroidery in the center but haven't decided for sure. If you've been collecting the optional embroidery patterns there are lots of extra designs to choose from.

Block 100

The final block!

I really wanted to take a picture of the full quilt but couldn't seem to find a place inside the house large enough to lay it out. Clutch is the one who had the great idea to..........

....take it outside! It was my idea however to try to photograph it from up on the deck. Not perfect but it works.

If you planned to add a border (or borders) to your quilt you'll be happy to know Brenda will have some suggestions for you on Dec. 15th. I haven't decided if I'm going to stop here or not. For right now I'm going to enjoy looking at the blocks and embroidery - I'll think about borders tomorrow!

I did my final assembly at the Dear Jane retreat last month. There are several set in seams that I didn't notice when dividing the sections so I apologize for the extra challenge you'll have putting things together. It's not really as bad as that makes it sound. If you follow the zillion pictures on the instruction pages you'll be just fine.
