So Sew Easy Schlep Bag

I hope you like the revised Schlep Bag and it’s new name.
I’ve only finished the basic bag instructions and haven’t completed all the testing on the pattern. I’m working on the collection of Twists on the basic pattern and will post those as soon as they are available. I’ll share with you how to make your bag reversible or use strips instead of squares. How to add batting or interfacing for structure and there will be a size chart so you’ll know ahead of time what size bag you’ll have based on the size of your starting pieces. I’ll tell you how to add pockets to the inside or outside, how you can change the handles or shape of the top of the bag. We can add snaps, clips, fobs, embroidery, quilt blocks and……….. The possibilities seem endless so keep checking back as new Twists are posted.

What a great bag to use for my trips to the library. I listen to many books on tape while sewing or quilting and they take up lots of space in a standard tote bag. This will work great. It would be fun to use book and reading related fabrics. Thanks so much.

Once you start making these bags you’re hooked! Last fall I reduced the square size and made Trick-or-Treat bags for my nephews. I also made them smaller bags to carry toys when coming to visit. It was wonderful to see them carrying their little bags full of treasures. Play around with the square size and the possibilities for using them are endless.

I would like to distribute copies of your schlep bag pattern to students in my quilting class. Is that okay with you? This is a free class offerred through the local community college.

It is an adorable pattern and several of my students have made bags and shared them in class. I won’t make copies of anything without express permission, though.

    Thanks!

I love this bag, and the fact you can make it any size you want. I have made 3 smaller ones and large tote and I gave one for one of my sisters for her b’day and she is crazy over it. I am curtanily working on another large tote for a friend, as she loves it. What a great way to use up scraps… LOVE that idea too. I was to inteminated to even try but a friend shamed me into trying and I am very happy she did.

Thanks for an easy pattern as I am enjoying making them. It is true, once you make one your hooked…

I LOVE this bag. Each one is unique and they go together so quick. The first one I did by hand-piecing and then the next machine piecing. Both were gorgeous. Thanks for sharing it.

I am having trouble making the schlep bag. I’m at the point where it looks like a windmill and can’t figure out how to sew it together. Because of the direction of the triangles being the same on each end, they don’t match up. Is the diagram correct? Can someone please help me? I really want to finish this bag! Thank you!

I made my mother one of these bags with buttons on one side of the handles. This way she can attach it to her wheelchair or walker. She recently took it with her to the hospital to carry her personal items(reading glasses, puzzle books, pens, address book, etc). All the nurses loved it!!

Gee,I have made so many of these bags I can’t count! I’m making them with one side halloween and the other fall I will take one with me to Houston to the Quilt Fest in Nov, it will be my extra bag!
Love it glad I got it when I did and forgot I had it. I have 3 more like this to get together the same way. I did some in r/w/b and one red and black way too many to count and when someone sees it gone! Thanks!

I made two of these with crazy quilt blocks for the focus fabric, and they are wonderful! Only problem is I accidently started with 10″ (instead of 8″)blocks for one of them and came out with a monster bag big enough to carry my 4 year old grandson around.

I sent an email earlier regarding vintage male and female golfer patterns and I think I hit a wrong key for my email address. The email asked if you have or know of any vintage male and/or female golfers that can be done in redwork.

Sorry for any confusion I caused by hitting an incorrect key in my email address.
