I know I'm more than a little late with this post and hope you'll understand - family comes first. Things have been a bit hectic around our house. Rob's Mom fell just after my last post and suffered a compression fracture in her back, but unbeknownst to us was also suffering from a kidney infection. She passed away unexpectedly and it's been a whirlwind of travel, family, funeral, sorting, cleaning and all the emotions that go along with losing someone special.

Polly was a very special lady. Her life wasn't always easy but she handled everything with grace and class. At 93 she was still living in her own apartment and enjoying life with her friends and family. On Easter Sunday she asked us to take the family picture at the beginning of this post and I'm so glad we did. Her funeral was on what would have been my Mom's 89th birthday so the day was really bittersweet for me.
I'm back at the cottage and trying to refocus my brain to some of the new projects I had planned but first I need to include Block 16 in the Just Takes 2 Schoolhouse Quilt

Just Takes 2â„¢ Schoolhouse Quilt – Block 15

It's a busy Labor Day holiday weekend here at the cottage so this is going to be short and sweet. The weather today was wonderful and we're enjoying the last hurrah of summer.
boat ride 8-31-13 Clutch and Zoe went with us for a boat ride tonight. We stayed on the lake until dark.

I forgot to show you my Block 14 from August 15. I was busy traveling back and forth to Grand Rapids for the AQS Quilt Show. The block is still available over at Brenda's web site until the 15th of September.

IMG_4311 The block is called either Double X or Old Maid's Puzzle. It's all rotary cut and machine pieced. Have fun putting it together and we'll see you again in a couple of weeks.

I hope you have a chance to take a few stitches in your current project. Just a few stitches a day makes a difference and before you know it you'll have a quilt.

Good morning everyone! I hope you're having a wonderful day. It's another strange summer weather day around here. Can't decide if it wants to rain or not and we're still about 10-15 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year. I'm getting pretty tired of of hearing the furnace come on during the night and the dogs spend a lot of time snuggled under a quilt.
We've got a quick and easy Just Takes 2 block for you today.

What could be easier than a Square in a Square...........in a square? Well, okay maybe a Nine Patch but believe me you'll have this block done in half an hour or less.

Doesn't that block look great in the schoolhouse? You're only using the background and solid color fabric in this block.

Each round of triangles is trimmed to size after you sew them so you're guaranteed to end up with a perfect 6" block. Be sure to visit Brenda at Dear Jane to see her block. Whenever I see her blocks I want to start this quilt all over again using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. The colors are just stunning.
